Jason Quigley on the road to recover after successful hand surgery

Jason Quigley’s surgery to repair a rare hand injury sustained on the way to winning his first pro title has been successful.

The Ballybofey man went under the knife today at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Last Thursday night, Quigley had to box eight rounds without the use of his right hand as he jostled with Glen Tapia at Fantasy Springs.

Quigley managed to win the NABF middleweight title after going the ten-round distance to win by unanimous decision.

In the second round, Quigley suffered a broken right hand and also detached and shredded a major tendon in his wrist.

Doctors who examined Quigley earlier this week said the injury was a ‘one in ten million’ chance, but the Donegal puncher, who is 13-0 as a pro, has vowed to get back to the canvas.

He said: “I will be back in the ring sooner than expected to continue my journey to the top. This is only a minor bump in the road.”

Quigley is expected to be out until the autumn.
