AHEAD OF his first bout of 2020, Donegal middleweight Jason Quigley has re-entered the top 15 in the WBC world rankings.
The WBC have released their updated rankings and Quigley (17-1, 13KOs) is slotted in at number 15 ahead of his clash with Oscar Cortes on Thursday night in California.
The Ballybofey man was in the top five when he suffered the set-back of losing his NABF middleweight belt against Tureano Johnson last July at Fantasy Springs.
However, Quigley – now being trained by former WBO world middleweight champion Andy Lee – returned to winning ways last month with a third round stoppage of Abraham Cordero.
This week, Quigley (17-1, 13KOs) is set to square up to Mexican Cortes (27-5, 14KOs) in a 10-round headline bout of a Thursday Night Fight Night, hosted by Golden Boy Promotion at The Hangar at the Orange County Fair, Costa Mesa.
Re-entry to the top 15 outlines that Quigley is a serious contender in the 160lbs division.
“It’s an exciting time, but what’s important now in 2020 is driving on and achieving what I want to achieve,” Quigley said.
“My aim and my goal is to become the world champion. I’ve seen it in training and I’ve felt it myself, there is a change there and click of things back in place again. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
Thursday’s fight will stream live on DAZN and RingTV, and regionally on Comcast across the United States.
