Jackett’s pride as Ronan Curtis makes instant international leap

Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett is thrilled to see Ronan Curtis impacting on the international stage.

The St Johnston man made his Republic of Ireland senior debut on Thursday night in the 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.

Now, Curtis is in line to play in tonight’s Nations League game against Denmark in Aarhus.

Just six months ago, Curtis was snapped up by Pompey from Derry City and has already hit six goals for the League One side.

“It’s terrific to have players with us pushing for international starts,” said Jackett.

“He must be high up in the manager’s thoughts. It’s good for him and good for his family.

“As a club we back him and are pleased to have current internationals within our group.”

Curtis replaced Callum O’Dowda at half-time in Thursday’s friendly and Jackett isn’t surprised he has made an instant leap.

He said: “Ronan has been good for us from day one in pre-season and did well for us in the pre-season games.

“It didn’t take him long to settle, he hit the ground running here. Ronan has been very good, very confident from the start.”
