RHYS Irwin continued his good form at Brands Hatch on his Team Appleyard Yamaha UK in the Supersport Championship.

A weekend of wet and humid difficult, changing track conditions was a sharp learning curve for the Kilmacrennan teen.

Again veteran racers set the pace with Rhys rising to the challenge showing strong lap times with 0.8 sec separating the top riders. Saturday’s race saw rain and a serious race incident leading to racing being  deferred to Sunday morning.

Race 1 saw a delighted Rhys battle at the front finishing in P5 which he followed with P9 in Race 2.

He said: “I am happy with my weekend. The track conditions made tyre choice difficult but I am delighted with my placing and I am learning every time I get on the bike”

Older brother Caolán signed with a new team R&R Racing on their Yamaha 600 showed great form all weekend.

Qualifying on row 3 of the grid for Sundays race and topping the Sunday morning session Caolán had a great race start moving straight to the front of the race.

An unfortunate race incident with coming together with another racer ended his race.

He said: “I’m disappointed not to finish the race and unfortunately I went down when another racer came a bit too close while passing me, but these things happen in racing. I was feeling very confident on the bike and had my sights on a podium finish.”

The brother now are looking forward to round 4 of the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton and wish to thank all their sponsors for their help so far.
