Injury to keep McCourt sidelined as Harps face ‘Saints’

Paddy McCourt looks set to miss Finn Harps’ Premier Division clash with St Patrick’s Athletic tonight.

The Harps attacker had to come off on Friday night, being replaced just shy of the hour mark in the 1-1 draw with Galway United in Ballybofey.

A knee injury seems likely to preclude the Derryman from participating against the Saints in Inchicore tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

Horgan noted after Friday’s draw that McCourt would ‘struggle’ for this one and Harps also have concerns over Danny Morrissey and Barry Molloy.

Horgan saw his team get a point from a game dominated by Galway on Friday night and warned: “We need to improve and everyone in there realises that.”

Harps have lost heavily on their last two visits to Richmond Park: A 4-0 loss in the League last May coming after a 6-1 thumping in a 2014 FAI Cup semi-final.

Horgan said: “We have only 72 hours. We have a poor record up there and

“We need legs on the pitch and we need men fit enough. We have a fair bit of work to do for it.”

Harps and St Pat’s both picked up their first point of the season on Friday, with Pat’s drawing with Sligo Rovers.

“We did better on Friday against Sligo Rovers,” Liam Buckley, the Pat’s manager said.

“We’re still not quite where we’d want to be in relation to the level of performance but I couldn’t fault the effort of the players so I was happy from that side of things.”

Pat’s will be without the suspended Darren Dennehy and Aidan Keena.

For Harps, it’s the start of a week on the road as Horgan’s men travel to Limerick on Saturday, and with Pat’s having an indifferent start it’s a fixture that Harps might well be confident of getting something out of.

“Many people see us as the easy team,” Horgan said, “but we’ll just keep battling and hope to get as many points. We have one point from two home games and we’ll need to improve on that.”
