Injury forces Ronan Curtis out of Irish squad for crunch qualifiers

A HAMSTRING injury will keep Ronan Curtis out of the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2020 games against Georgia and Switzerland.

Curtis sat out Portsmouth’s 2-1 win over Doncaster yesterday having picked up the injury in training with the club on Friday.

The St Johnston man has withdrawn from the Irish panel and has been replaced by Brighton starlet Aaron Connolly, who scored twice in a 3-0 win over Spurs yesterday.

Curtis underwent a fitness test, but was unable to start for Portsmouth at the Keepmoat Stadium

“Ronan felt his hamstring during training this week. It was tight and so we didn’t want to risk him,” Pompey manager Kenny Jackett said.

“He’ll have an MRI on Monday and we’ll speak to the Republic of Ireland guys about what they want to do.

“For us, we will assess him, see how it settles down, it’s not anything major, but whether it keeps him out next week or not I don’t know yet.”

Curtis has scored three goals in 11 games for Portsmouth and his withdrawal was later confirmed by the FAI.
