Inishowen League: Four way tie at the top of Premier Division

THERE IS A four-way tie at the top of the Jackie Crossan Premier Division after Glengad United and Buncrana Hearts continued their perfect starts to the League season on Sunday.

JACKIE CROSSAN PREMIER DIVISION

Buncrana Hearts 2 Aileach FC 0

Aileach had the first chance when Gavin Doherty advanced into the area but was denied by a good Ryan Doherty tackle.

Buncrana hit back with Stephen McHugh and Bart Wesoloski both having efforts saved by David McGeady.

Aileach spurned two great openings from close range with both Gavin Doherty and Darren McMonagle failing to hit the target before McMonagle was narrowly wide from twenty yards.

At the other end Liam McCarron shot over and then wide.

On the stroke of half time Mc Monagle found space on the edge of the area but shot straight at Eoghan O’Doherty.

Buncrana threatened first on the restart when Wesoloski had an effort well saved before Cathal McElhinney had a header at the other end saved by O’Doherty.

The home side broke the deadlock on 62 minutes after a quickly taken free by Stephen McHugh found James McGonagle who finished superbly to the corner from twelve yards.

Buncrana were on top now and McGonagle dragged an effort wide before after good build up McHugh had a shot well saved.

The Hearts sealed the points on 77 minutes after McGonagle pounced on a defensive error to square the ball for Kevin O’Loughlin to tap home.

 

QPS 0 Glengad United 4

Illies Celtic 2 Moville Celtic 3

AFTER a bright opening in which both teams had a half chance the deadlock was broken on 10 minutes when a Darragh McDermott corner was headed out to William McLaughlin and he slammed the ball home through a crowd of players to the bottom corner.

Moville got back on terms six minutes later when Conor Doherty converted a penalty after he had been upended.Illies hit back and on 21 minutes McDermott fed John Campbell whose driven effort was cleared by a defender.

Moville then took the lead before the break when a deep cross from Conor Doherty found Ciaran Diver who headed past Johnathan Noone.

On the restart both Campbell and McDermott had chances saved by Sean McGuinness before midway through the half Moville had a clear chance after Josh Lafferty raced clear of the home defence but fired wide.

Illies then created another chance when McDermott’s crossfield ball found Shane Devlin but he fired across goal and wide.

On 88 minutes Moville increased their lead when with the home defence appealing for offside Michael McNaugh raced clear and finished well.

Illies got a consolation in the final minute after Campbell headed a free across goal to McDermott to slot home.

 

Culdaff FC 0 Greencastle FC 0

THE home side will be delighted with this point. They fought hard from start to finish and, while Greencastle had more in terms of possession, there were few clear chances in the game.

Culdaff had the first chance when visiting keeper JP O’Doherty failed to hold a free kick into the area and it fell to Noel McLaughlin whose effort was deflected behind.

On 16 minutes Greencastle hit back when Ciaran Moore flashed an effort past Darragh McLaughlin’s right hand post.Midway through the half Gerry Gill unleashed a powerful shot from twenty yards which took a deflection on its way over the bar.

On 35 minutes a corner for the home side was cleared to Matthew Crampsey whose well struck effort was beaten away by O’Doherty.

On the stroke of half time James Curran had a 30 yards effort which failed to trouble McLaughlin in the home goal. Greencastle pressed more in the second period but Culdaff defended superbly.

On 48 minutes an inswinging Gill free kick from wide on the left found Danny Murphy at the back post but his close range header crashed back off the post.

On 57 minutes after a good move Curran had an effort from the edge of the area safey gathered by McLaughlin before on 75 minutes Gill cut in from the left and saw his effort turned away by McLaughlin.

A corner in the final minute found Michael Barr whose header was turnedaway at full stretch by McLaughlin.

 

STRAND HOTEL FIRST DIVISION, 2pm

 

Dunree United 6 Carrowmena FC 1

DUNREE began well and Gerry Farrell crossed for Darryl Moran but he fired straight at Kyle Dougal.

They took the lead on 12 minutes when Oisin O’Flaherty beat a man on the left and pulled the ball back for Moran to fire low past Dougal.

When Barry Nixon fed O Flaherty he turned sharply and saw his effort parried away by Dougal but O Flaherty followed up to slot home.

The visitors replied on 38 minutes when a shot on the run by Michael Coyle was saved by Paul McGettigan.

Dunree then increased their lead before the break when Farrell laid the ball into the path of Kevin McColgan whose first time effort flew into the top corner from twenty five yards.

Carrowmena had another chance at the start of the second half when Dan Doherty turned well on the edge of the area but fired straight at McGettigan .

They got a goal back then on 50 minutes when a corner by Coyle was headed home by JP McDermott.

Dunree got back on top nd when Philip McGuinness cut in from the left he calmly placed his effort low into the corner.

Substitute Daniel McLaughlin then played a neat one two with Caolan Gallagher before advancing into the area to drill low into the corner.

They completed the scoring when a Moran corner was headed home by O’Flaherty.

 

Cockhill Celtic Youths 3 Carn FC 6

CARN got a dream start on 12 minutes after Brandon Browne beat the offside trap to race clear and slot low past Declan Caldwell.

On 24 minutes the home side got back on terms when a Michael O’Connor free fell to James O’Donnell on the edge of the area and he fired low past Daniel Houghton.

On the stroke of half time a cross from Declan McGonagle was punched by Caldwell but Browne pounced to drill the loose ball home and regain the lead.

They increased their advantage on 58 minutes when good link up between Robert McCartney and McGonagle ended with the latter firing past Caldwell.

Carn then made it four on 64 minutes when McGonagle pounced on a loose ball to drill high to the top corner from the edge of the area.

Cockhill battled all the way and reduced the deficit when Declan Kearney converted after Andy McElhinney was upended.

The home defence failed to deal with a long clearance from Houghton allowing Deery to race clear and make it five two.

Another penalty from James O’Donnell after he had been fouled made it five three before Browne sealed the win when he ran onto McGonagle’s pass to fire past Caldwell and complete his hat trick.

 

Redcastle United 2 Rasheney FC 1

REDCASTLE had the first chance on eleven minutes when Cathal Crumlish’s cross was cleared as far as Conor Canavan but he shot straight at McGilloway.

The ‘keeper was tested again soon after when Brendan Murphy played in Crumlish but McGilloway spread himself to make the save.

The visitors went ahead almost immediately after this when Paddy McGilloway cut in from the right and fired across Ryan McCole into the far corner of the net.

Home ‘keeper Mc Cole then got a outstretched leg to a goal-bound Ben Lafferty effort.

McGilloway preserved Rasheney’s half-time lead collecting Murphy’s shot at the second attempt.

Redcastle upped the tempo in the second half and has efforts by Stephen McLaughlin and Greg Breslin, before drawing level when McLaughlin turned home a Canavan cross at the back post.

Redcastle continued to press and Mc gilloway denied Crumlish and Kevin Doran to keep the score level.

The home side eventually got themselves ahead when Ryan Doherty’s cross was flicked into the path of Murphy by Doran and he finished from six yards.
