DONEGAL SIGNS RESERVE LEAGUE SHIELD
Rasheney Reserves 0-2 Illies Res
THE home side had the first threat when Declan Grant unleashed a snapshot which Jason Cambell saved easily.
Illies replied and took the lead on 12 minutes when a defensive error allowed Charie McLaughlin to capitalize and fire low to the corner.
Rasheney upped the tempo then with Corny McCole having a free tipped over by Campbell before George Doherty glanced a header from a Paddy McGilloway cross just wide. Doherty then intercepted a ball in midfield and fed Brian Doherty who turned well but saw his effort saved by Campbell.
Illies spurned a great chance on 42 minutes when Seamus O’Donnell was adjudged to have been upended in the area but Martin Donaghey blazed the spot kick over the bar. On the stroke of half-time Joe McDaid had an effort from 16 yards well held by Roger McGilloway.
Rasheney spurned good chances in the opening period of the second half when Brian Doherty twice bore down on goal but failed to hit the target on each occasion.Illies replied with Andy Graham crossing to Joe McDaid who blazed over when well placed.
Rasheney hit back and when substitute Sean Grant crossed Denis Doherty just failed to connect before another substitute Ryan McLaughlin weaved his way into the area but Campbell advanced to smother.
Illies sealed the points of 72 minutes when Rasheney again failed to clear properly and McLaughlin advanced into the area to slip the ball low under McGilloway.
Moville Reserves 2-2 Culdaff Reserves
NIALL McLaughlin had an early free kick for the visitors well saved by Ryan Coyle in the home goal before Moville hit back with Kyle Harkin firing wide and their Polish player Norbitt denied by a fine double save from Martin Mclaughlin in the visitors goal.
Before the break Culdaff went close but McLaughlin fired narrowly wide from a very tight angle.
Moville opened the scoring on 48 minutes when Harkin turned well and unleashed a brilliant effort from twenty five yards to the top corner.
Culdaff got back on terms midway through the half when after a quick break McLaughlin fed Declan Mclaughlin who slotted home from close range.
Moville upped the tempo and in a scramble Alan Orr just failed to force the ball over the line before Emmet McCauley crossed for Christy McGeoghaghan who controlled well and drilled low to the corner from eight yards.
Within three minutes Culdaff levelled when Martin McGrenaghan turned and unleashed a piledriver from thirty yards to the top corner.
Moville pressed hard in the closing stages with Orr twice going close and in the final minute Pearse Doherty beat two men rounded McLaughlin but saw his effort cleared off the line.
Sea Rovers 1-2 QPS
PLAYED in Gleneely, the Point were dealt a serious blow when they lost goalkeeper David Bell after only five minutes with a knee injury sustained while kicking the ball out and he was replaced by Paul Grant.
Grant was soon in action parrying a Damien Ward effort with Keelan Doherty smashing the rebound off the crossbar.
The Point responded with a short corner which was driven across the face of goal to Fergal Buchanan who fired over from six yards.
Rovers the took the lead on 21 minutes when Keelan Doherty’s corner found the unmarked Gerard McEleney to head home at the back post.
On the half hour they had another chance when Gary Doherty sent Anthony Cantwell clear but he fired wide when well placed.
At the other end Stephen Slattery got a clear sight of goal but with Glen Watson to beat he failed to hit the target.
The last chance of the half fell to Rover when Kevin Harkin found Keelan Doherty whose effort was brilliantly saved by Grant.
Rovers spurned a gilt edged chance in the opening minutes of the second period when a defensive error presented Gary Collins with a clear sight of goal but he blazed over.
At the other end Jack McConalogue was unlucky to see his effort crash off the post to Buchanan but his follow up was brilliantly saved by Watson.
On 75 minutes Rovers created another chance after Cantwell fed Terence Stephens whose cross found Keelan Doherty but Grant made a stunning save.
With five minutes remaining the point got back on terms after a corner fell to Paul Hegarty and he fired to the top corner past Watson.
On the stroke of full time the point broke the length of the field after a Rovers free kick and Brian Buckley fed Buchanan to poke the ball home and clinch the win.
Redcastle Reserves 0-1 Aileach Reserves
AILEACH had the bulk of possession in this game but could never settle until the final whistle.
Stephen Doherty had an early effort well saved by Ryan McCole before midway through the half Jordan McGeady had an effort from distance also saved.
Redcastle had their first chance on the stroke of half time when a Declan Bonner effort was saved by John Roulstone.
Aileach started the second period well and broke the deadlock in the opening minute when Thomas McMackin burst into the area to fire high past McCole.
Redcastle replied on 58 minutes but Gerard McLaughlin’s free was well saved by Roulstone.
Aileach controlled the latter stages with David Ryan’s strike tipped over by McCole, Conor Bradley firing wide when well placed and Gerard Arbuckle seeing a late effort saved.
Carn Reserves 1-4 Gleneely Colts
IN good conditions the home side took the lead on 15 minutes when Joseph McKinney advanced and unleashed a tremendous twenty five yards effort to the top corner.
The Colts got back on terms midway through the half after Nathan Mclaughlin controlled well on the edge of the area and fired low past Cathal Doherty.
Gleneely then took the lead minutes before the break when a John P Lafferty free found the unmarked Neil G Duffy and he headed past Doherty.
Carn started the second period well and both Dylan and Cade Cooke had good chances but failed to convert.
On 76 minutes the colts increased their lead when Doherty made a tremendous save to deny Duffy but the loose ball fell to Lafferty to slot home.
On the stroke of full time they added a fourth when Cory O’Brien’s effort took a deflection on its way past Doherty.
Aileach Youths 2-1 Dunree Reserves
DUNREE started the game strong with Martin Lynch, Neil Moran and Evan Barry bossing the midfield but Aileach had the first opening when Dean Gill ran into the box before Jason McLaughlin saved the day with a last ditch challenge.
Dunree took the lead in the 21st minute when a long ball into the box wasn’t properly cleared and it fell to Lynch to drove into the net from fifteen yards.
Dunree put Aileach under pressure for the next minutes but Paul McCrudden and Josh Arbuckle held firm at the back and restricted them to long range shots.
However on the stoke of half time Neil Moran put Kyle McDaid through and Dylan Clarke pulled off a tremendous save to keep the minimum between the sides at half time.
Aileach made a couple of tactical changes at half time and got to grip with the game a lot better in the second half and this pressure paid off in the 54th minute when Stephen O’Donnell released Eddie McGrath on the wing and his low cross was placed into the bottom left corner by Dean Gill from six yards.
Aileach almost took the lead minutes later when Eddie McGrath shot narrowly wide.
Matthew Doherty was next to try his luck for Aileach with a shot from fifteen yards that was well held by Philip Doherty in the Dunree goals.
Aileach took the lead in the 67th minute when Paul McGrath cut inside from the wing and hit a ferocious shot that Doherty was only able to parry and McGrath pounced on the rebound to give Aileach the lead.
Aileach had chances to put the game beyond Dunree’s reach during this spell with Owen McGeehan shooting over when well placed and Dean Gill’s acrobatic effort saved by Doherty in the Dunree goal.
Dunree pushed Jason McLaughlin into attack in the final few minutes but O’Donnell and McCrudden stood firm at the back to see Aileach to their first victory of the season.
Buncrana Reserves 4-0 Glengad Reserves
BUNCRANA dominated the majority of the game and both Bart Wesoloski and Gerard Boyle were denied by good saves from Michael McLaughlin.
The visitors came closest to scoring on 17 minutes when Liam Nelson unleashed an effort from the edge of the area which crashed back off the post.
Buncrana upped the tempo and really put the game out of reach when Wesoloski hit a hat trick in an eleven minute spell.
Heconverted a John O’Loughlin cross after good work by Eamon Morrow before O’Loughlin picked him out with a superb pass and he fired high to the top corner from sixteen yards.
His hat trick was all his own work when he beat two defenders before slotting low to the corner. Glengad tried to battle back in the second half with Nelson and Gary Kelly both denied by saves from Ryan O’Sullivan.
At the other end Mclaughlin had to be alert to save well from Boyle and Adam Duffy before the home side completed the scoring when man of the match Wesoloski crossed for Boyle to head home from eight yards.
