“This is what I’m made for”: Focussed Quigley weighs in ahead of title shot

Jason Quigley has weighed in for his NABF middleweight title fight against Glen Tapia at Fantasy Springs, Indio.

The Ballybofey man touched the scales at 160lbs at the weigh-in head of tomorrow night’s fight on the maiden ‘Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN’ card at the Fantasy Springs Special Events Centre.

Tapia weighed in at 159.8lbs and the two engaged in a lengthy face-off ahead of their meeting.

The fight – the headline bout on the night – will be televised on ESPN 2 in America and will be available to stream in Ireland via the following link: https://livestream.com/accounts/14802340/events/7168117 (The password is jqstream)

Last year, Quigley – pictured above by Lina Baker, instantboxing.com – followed up a routine win over Freddy Lopez with statement successes over James De La Rosa and Jorgé Melendez.

Now, Golden Boy Promotions believe that Quigley is ready for a title tilt.

“This is what I’m made for and what I’ve been put on this planet to do – to become a champion,” Quigley said.

“I have my chance to do that now and I intend to grab that with both hands.”

A long lay-off between his May decision over De La Rosa and the emphatic first round demolition of Melendez – owing to a sprained wrist that resulted in the cancellation of a planned autumn bout – left Quigley ‘feeling dangerous’ in December.

As he prepares for a 10-round jostle with ‘Jersey Boy’ Tapia, ‘El Animal’ is the picture of business ahead of a bout that headlines the bill at Fantasy Springs.
