‘I’m going to work as hard as I can’ – Toland embracing Man City challenge

TYLER Toland says she is embracing the challenge of her big move to Manchester City.

The 18-year-old signed a two-year deal with City from Sion Swifts.

Toland made her debut in a 5-0 Cup win over Leicester City and also played in a 4-0 Champions League win over Lugano.

The Blues are back in action tomorrow in the Women’s Super League as they host Birmingham at the Academy Stadium.

“I’m really enjoying it – the girls have been great and very welcoming, helping me both on and off the pitch which is a really big thing when you come into a new team,” Toland said.

“Coming from a local team in Northern Ireland to a club like Manchester City is a bit surreal, but I love the challenge.

“It’s been a great first couple of months. We had seven matches in September, and we won them all. The manager has tried to rotate and use as many players as possible.”

Toland wasn’t included by new Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw for Tuesday’s Euro 2021 qualifier against Ukraine and the Dutch coach suggested that she will speak to City regarding the player’s form.

Toland is with a star-studded squad at City that included Irish team-mate Megan Campbell, Canadian International Janine Beckie, Scottish-capped Caroline Weir and the likes of England players Karen Bardsley, Demi Stokes, Steph Houghton, Jill Scott, Georgia Stanway, Keira Walsh and Ellen White.

The St Johnston woman said: “I’m going to work as hard as I can in training and if game time comes along, I’m going to give my all to help the team and try to win trophies.”
