Sarah Marie Duffy from Illies Golden Gloves sealed a place in a National Girls Championship final at the weekend.

On Friday night, Duffy – the daughter of Illies coach Eamonn and renowned referee and judge Sadie – overcame Ellie Hanrahan from Kilfenora in the final.

Duffy will now line up against Waita Doherty from Immaculata in the Girl 1 39kgs final.

Duffy won by a unanimous decision against Hanrahan to follow on from her recent Ulster final win when she overcame Caoilfhionn Crowley from Enniskillen.

There was no joy for Clonmany’s Amy Doherty, who was stopped by Cori Gleeson of Nenagh, while Carndonagh’s Molly Simmons was stopped by Ellie Mai Gartland from Clonmel.

This weekend, Raphoe’s Leah Gallen and Clonmany’s Grace Harkin are in the running for final spots.

Gallen faces Geesala’s Ella McDonagh in a Girl 5 66kgs semi, while Harkin is up against Danielle O’Neill from Sliabh Luachra in a Girl 6 semi at 50kgs.

Already, Won Towns duo Lani Lafferty (Girl 1 41kgs) and Alecia McMenamin (Girl 6 63kgs) have already booked places in finals.
