Paula McGrory’s brace of goals in the second half came after an earlier own goal from the unfortunate Bridgeen Devenney and a header by Deirdre Grant.
Both teams came into this one on the back of a gruelling week at the Foyle Cup and their endeavours weren’t exactly assisted by a drenching downpour in the first half.[adrotate group=”37″]
McGrory hit the post with one good opening after 20 minutes after an earlier attempt had flown wide.
Bonagee had a big chance to take the lead after seven minutes. The flying Deborah Kerrigan scurried into the box, got her foot to a loose ball, but was clipped by Illies goalkeeper Fiona Doherty.
Referee Liam McLaughlin awarded a penalty, but Shannon McBride turned her effort wide of Doherty’s right-hand post.
Illies took the lead when Danielle Doherty’s corner spun off Devenney and into the net.[adrotate group=”38″]
Seven minutes into the second half, Illies doubled the lead when, from another Doherty corner, Grant glanced a header beyond Denise McElhinney.
McGrory got her first and Illies’ third with a neat shot from 20 yards and she completed the scoring when she cut in from the right and unleashed an arrow to the top corner.
Kerrigan’s withdrawl, owing to work commitments at half-time and the enforced departure of Amy Thompson left Bonagee short for the second half and Seamy McGinty’s team will try to get back to winning ways on Tuesday evening when they host Finn Valley in the Donegal Women’s League.[adrotate group=”68″]
