Portsmouth have made their best start to a season in 28 years – and Ronan Curtis was central to their latest win last night.
The St Johnston man, a summer signing for Pompey from Derry City, scored the winner as Portsmouth recorded their fourth successive victory in League One, defeating Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.
Curtis showed great strength in the 87th minute to get a shot away and managed to get the ball over the line.
“My head went then and I lost the plot a bit as I went over to celebrate with our fans,” Curtis said.
“It was outstanding.
“It didn’t matter who scored the winner, but I’m just lucky it fell for me.
“I was scared that the defender was going to get back and clear the ball away, but it just about went over the line.”
Curtis set up Portsmouth’s winner against Luton and drilled in a brace of goals in the win over Blackpool.
The Republic of Ireland U21 international has had a dream start to life under Kenny Jackett at Fratton Park.
He said: “If somebody had told me what I’d do after a few games here, then I wouldn’t really have believed them.
“But I said when I first signed that I was here to score goals and provide assists – and that’s what I’m doing.”
