JASON Quigley believes his ‘buzz’ is back as he counts the days down to his next fight.
Quigley (16-1, 12KOs) has made some big changes to his corner ahead of a bout with Abraham Cordero (13-4-2, 7KOs) on December 5 in California.
Quigley takes on Cordero as part of a Thursday Night Fights card at The Hangar at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa.
The Ballybofey man is now training under former WBC world middleweight champion Andy Lee in Dublin.
“It’s been very interesting,” Quigley said of his first couple of months working alongside Lee.
“There has been a lot of learning. Andy has a wealth of intelligence – inside and outside the ring.
“Every session I go into, I’m excited. Everything is going really smoothly. Every session, I feel as if I’m coming away with things in my mind that I go over.
“I have a buzz and an excitement back again. It’s enjoyable.”
Quigley is coming back from the first loss of his pro career in July against Tureano Johnson – when he relinquished the NABF middleweight belt – and Lee suffered a similar bump on his own road.
Lee (who retired with a 35-3-1 record) was 15-0 when Brian Vera stunned him with a seventh round Tko in March 2008.
Six years later, Lee came back from the brink to beat Matvey Korobov in Las Vegas to take the WBC world title.
Quigley said: “You never stop learning. No matter how much you achieve or how many experiences you have, you never stop learning.
“The learning is the key part and putting it into play is the other part. The first few weeks was learning and going the motions with that. The next part now is to put it in place. It’s been flowing nicely.”
Quigley had trained under Dominic Ingle in Sheffield since 2017, when he took the decision to relocate from Los Angeles.
In recent months, the Donegal puncher has altered things as he attempted to find answers to some searching questions that lingered after he went down to Johnson at Fantasy Springs.
The 28-year-old said: “It just didn’t feel right or the way I felt in my fights previously. I just didn’t get in there with that viciousness in me or the bit between my teeth.
“I wanted to find out after the fight if it was gone or if it was there.
“As soon as I hit the bang again, I could feel it. I know it’s there.”
