ON A WEEKEND when there were some huge scores to be had, Deirdre Meehan continues to lead the way in the Champions Travel Fantasy Premier League.

Her team, the ‘Humdingers’ scored a healthy 89 points, with the decision to have Alexis Sanchez (pictured above) as captain playing particular dividends. The Chilean scored twice as Arsenal ran riot in a 4-1 win at Sunderland.

With the armband, Sanchez came home with 26 points. And another notable player for Meehan over the weekend was Tom Heaton, the Burnley goalkeeper. Heaton was in excellent form at Old Trafford in a scoreless draw, keeping a clean sheet and getting 11 points.

Meehan is on 635 points in all; 21 points in front of second placed ‘Doppelgänger FC’ – the team under the management of Ryan Kettle.

They scored an impressive 91 points over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend. Sergio Agüero, with 32 points as captain, was the driving force for Kettle.

Currently in third is Mark McGowan and his ‘Popcoppers’ team. A 91-point haul means for a total now of 605.

‘Slumdogg mignolet’ are fourth, the team managed by Barry Mailey. His 82 points means a total of 599 and in fifth place, Carole McGlinchey’s ‘its in the game’ is on 591 following a weekly 70.

In joint fifth overall, with 591 as well, are Martin Brogan’s ‘Donegal1975’ and John Crawford’s ‘Pique Blinders’.
