Huge crowd for Twin Towns BC tournament

TWIN TOWNS BOXING CLUB hosted its biggest crowd in years at Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey on Saturday night.

A superb night of boxing had the crowd on tenterhooks throughout a jam-packed card.

Recently-crowned Ulster Novice Intermediate champion Cathal Gallagher was edged out by Carrickmore’s Paddy McGee in a bout the home puncher can count himself unfortunate not to have won.

The same was true for Irish champion Ciara Anderson – a grand-daughter for former Irish Olympian Brian Anderson senior – who lost out to St Anne’s Shannon Sweeney.

Twin Towns’ Brian Gallagher turned in a magnificent display to overcome Raphoe’s Danny Duggan at 75kgs with Gallaghr’s performance earning him the boxer of the night award.

There was a fine win, too, for Twin Towns man Anthony ‘Bang Bang’ Patton, who had a unanimous decision win over Bundoran’s Jamie Spollen, while Allannah Sweeney impressed on her way to a win over Carndonagh’s Molly Simmons.

There was also a notable win for Orin McDermott, the former Finn Valley ABC man who is now fighting out of Raphoe ABC. McDermott defeated Sligo City’s Jordan Myers.

“The show was a massive success,” said Twin Towns coach Shane McHugh.

“Every boxer there put on a first class performance . And the crowd was massive one of the biggest in years.

“The club wishes to thank all the officials who done there jobs to a very high standard and to the people of the locality for their huge support towards the club.

“We also thank the boxers and coaches who travelled great distances. And to the boxers of Twin Towns who all gave great display of boxing on the night. Huge credit to everyone.”
