Huge away win for LyIT ladies as men’s team obtain fine draw at Dundalk

The Letterkenny IT men’s and ladies soccer teams both got their campaigns underway in Dundalk today.

Shane Bryne’s mens team collected a hard earned point following a scoreless draw against a home team that has had slightly the upperhand on them in recent clashes.

On this occasion, with a number of new faces in his squad, Bryne’s team produced an excellent workmanlike performance to get their campaign off to a good start.

They play Maynooth IT next week at home.

Lyit: Shane Graham, Adrian Delap, Fearghal Harkin, Dean O’Donnell, Shane Porter, Gareth Doherty, Shane McNamee, Odhran McMacken, Codey Brogan, Dean Larkin, Oran Higgins. Subs: Justin McGee for McNamee, Ryan Connelly for Brogan.

The Ladies proved much too strong for their Dundalk IT opponents, winning 12-0 in a one-sided game which they controlled from the start.

In charge for the day team manager Brid McGinty would be well pleased with this opening day display from her side but will be aware that tougher test awaits them.

Lauren Cregan and Vanessa McHugh scored hat-tricks, Zoe Green and Amy Boyle got two apiece and Aisling McGuinness and Amanda Callaghan were also on the mark.
