A homecoming reception for the five Gaoth Dobhair players involved in the successful Irish Banshees team will be held this Saturday evening.

Rachel Mc Gee, Roisin McFadden, Fiona Roarty, Carolann Cassidy and Aisling Gillespie were all part of the Banshees team that won the AFL International Cup.

At the Grand Final in Melbourne, the Banshees defeated the Canada Northern Lights 25-21

Gillespie scored one of the Donegal goals in the famous win as Ireland avenged a 38-12 final defeat from the 2014 version.

In their semi-final, the Banshees had beaten the Great Britain Swans 23-15 to fire them into a meeting with Cup holders Canada.

The Banshees defeated USA Freedom, European Crusaders and Papua New Guinea to reach the semi-final.

Gillespie and McGee scored in a 60-3 win over Papua New Guinea in Hallam.

This Saturday night at 9.30pm, a homecoming reception will be held in Teach Mhicí to celebrate their success.

Also included in the Banshees squad was Letterkenny woman Leona Russell and former LyIT student Aine Higgins.
