HOLDERS BONAGEE United disposed of the reigning Donegal League Premier Division champions Castlefin Celtic to reach the quarter-finals of the Kmnockalla Caravans Senior Cup on Saturday night.

Jason Gibson’s team were comfortable winners in the end after finally managing to wriggle free late in the first half.

Two goals in the space of 90 seconds, both of them by Deano Larkin, gave Bonagee control of the tie.

Ryan Rainey, Michael Doherty, Jordan Armstong and Chris Breen were all on the mark for the Ulster Senior League outfit.

Rainey headed home from a Doherty corner in the second minute to give the home side the lead.

However, veteran Shane Gallagher equalised for Castlefin as he connected to Corrie Lee Bogan’s diagonal ball and lifted over goalkeeper Eugene Ferry.

Doherty was denied by a fine save by Chris O’Donnell from a free kick while a superb effort by Castlefin captain Emmett White flew just over the top.

O’Donnell thwarted Armstrong, but the resistance broke on 42 minutes when Larkin steered home from ten yards.

With Castlefin hardly having time to catch a breath, Bonagee broke again and Larkin finished from a delightful pass by Michael Funston.

Doherty slalomed in and found the bottom corner to stretch the lead further.

After Funston riffled over the top, Bonagee added a fifth in the 85th minute and it was a cracker from Armstrong from the right side of the penalty area.

There was still time for substitute Breen to finish the rout after good work by youngster Peter Carr.
