History will be made this Saturday at Pairc na nGael in Glencolmcille when a Tir Chonaill Gaels team takes on the local Naomh Columba.
The Tir Chonaill Gaels team that will face Glen will be the first all-English born team to play on Irish soil, the organisers say.
There have always been strong links between Glen and London.
The Naomh Columba manager, Paddy J McGinley, is a former Tir Chonaill Gaels and London manager.
The Tir Chonaill Gaels team will include his son, Francis J who, while he played underage and adult football for Naomh Columba, was born in London.
Paul Coggins, who managed London to the Connacht final in 2013, will take charge of Tir Chonaill Gaels, whose captain, Ewan Vassal, is a newcomer to Gaelic football having only started playing two years ago.
Francis J McGinley and Callum Crowley are the two main organisers.
“Hopefully it will be a great occasion,” McGinley says.
“We are travelling with our British born team and we believe this to be a historic game as it will be the first adult GAA team to field an English born team on Irish soil.
“Hopefully there’ll be a big attendance as there is massive connections with Tir Chonaill Gaels in Donegal.”
The game throws in at 5pm on Saturday.Tags:
