Donegal’s scoring blitz on Sunday against Antrim in Ballybofey was the county’s highest Championship tally in 51 years.

Jamie Brennan, Paddy McGrath and Patrick McBrearty all hit goals on a day when ten different players got on the scoreboard for Donegal in a 3-19 to 1-9 win.

Donegal were runaway winners by 16 points and it was certainly an impressive scoreline, even if they  were up against Division 4 Antrim.

Yesterday’s score was Donegal’s second highest ever total in Championship football.

You have to wind all the way back to the summer of 1966 to find better.

Then, in an Ulster semi-final against Fermanagh in Dungannon, Donegal scored 4-17. Donegal reached the final thanks to a huge 4-17 to 1-8 win, an 18-point triumph.

Ballyshannon’s Michael McLoone helped himself to 3-4 and John Hannigan of St Eunan’s netted the other Donegal goal.
