Here’s how this evening’s Championship draws will work

THE DONEGAL Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) will conduct quarter-final and relegation play-off draws prior to this evening’s monthly meeting of the county committee.

At around 8.30pm at the Villa Rose Hotel in Ballybofey, the draws for the Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Donegal Senior, Senior B, Intermediate and Intermediate B Football Championship quarter-finals will take place.

The relegation play-off draws for the senior and intermediate championships will also be made this evening.

Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Donegal SFC

Pot 1 – Glenswilly, Kilcar, Malin, Naomh Conaill.

Pot 2 – Dungloe, St Eunan’s, Sean MacCumhaills, Termon.

Relegation – Ardara, Killybegs, Glenfin, Four Masters.

EACH of the four group winners – Glenswilly, Kilcar, Malin and Naomh Conaill – will be drawn against a runner-up from pot 2. Teams who met in the group stages are NOT permitted again in a quarter-final. For example, Glenswilly and Dungloe, who met in Group A, cannot meet in a quarter-final fixture.

See here, in a piece by Alan Foley last night, for an explanation of who can play who in the SFC quarter-finals.

The four teams in the relegation play-offs will be drawn from the one pot for two semi-finals and the losers of those games will then meet in a relegation play-off, the loser of which will drop to the Intermediate Championship for 2017.

Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Senior B Championship

Pot 1 – Dungloe, St Eunan’s, Sean MacCumhaills, Naomh Conaill.

Pot 2 – Ardara, Kilcar, Glenfin, Gaoth Dobhair.

THE same set-up as the SFC, here, with the four group winners meeting a team from pot 2. The only stipulation here, again, is that teams who played each other in the group stage cannot meet in a quarter-final. For instance, Dungloe and Ardara cannot be drawn to meet in a quarter-final.

Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Donegal IFC

Pot 1 – Milford, Aodh Ruadh, Burt

Pot 2 – St Naul’s, Naomh Ultan, Cloughaneely, Naomh Columba, Naomh Bríd

Relegation – Carndonagh, Naomh Colmcille, Buncrana

THE three group winners – Milford Aodh Ruadh and Burt – will be in pot 1 and, therefore, kept apart in the quarter-finals. The group winners will each face an opponent from pot 2.

The remaining five teams will be drawn from pot 2, meaning two of the teams from this pot will meet in the quarter finals.

Unlike the Senior Championship, there is nothing to prevent teams who met in the group stage from playing again in a quarter-final.

In the relegation play-off, two of the three teams – Carndonagh, Naomh Colmcille and Buncrana – will face off with the loser of that game to play the team that gets a ‘bye’.

Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Intermediate B Championship

Pot 1 – Gaeil Fhánada, Cloughaneely, Buncrana

Pot 2 – Milford, St Naul’s, Aodh Ruadh, Naomh Columba, Naomh Bríd

THE same set-up as the Intermediate Championship with the three group winners kept apart, facing an opponent from pot 2.

The remaining five teams will be drawn from pot 2, meaning two of the teams from this pot will meet in the quarter finals.

Teams who met in the group stage are allowed to meet again in a quarter-final.
