A total 49 schools and 374 children attended the Donegal Primary Schools XC Championships, hosted by Inishowen AC at Buncrana Shore Front, on Tuesday.

The children had qualified for the finals from the six regional events held in Inishowen, Letterkenny, Finn Valley, Milford, the Rosses and South Donegal back in September.

The standard of competition was most impressive with medals heading back to all regions in the large, medium and small schools categories.

This was the fifth annual County Championships and the event continues to go from strength to strength.

This year’s event was blessed with good weather and a very sporting atmosphere where all participating children did their schools proud.

Bernie O’Callaghan, the Chairman of the County Athletics Board, was present and presented medals to the winning athletes.

All children received a certificate of participation and we are looking forward to building on this success next year.
