KILCAR advance to their SFC quarter-final against Sean MacCumhaills after a fourth win from four group phase games.

Kilcar 0-16 Gaoth Dobhair 1-5

It was shadow boxing at best in Towney with two of the SFC big guns meeting in a dead-rubber clash, both having already sealed their respective places in the last eight.

Kilcar were 0-8 to 0-3 ahead at the break, with Stephen McBrearty – who scored seven points in all – hitting three first-half scores.

Eoin McHugh, lining out again at full-back, hit the last point of the opening half.

Goalkeeper Kevin Campbell, from a ’45, was among the scorers early in the second half.

On 44 minutes, Gaoth Dobhair got right back into the game when Micheál Carroll fired home a goal. Carroll’s major narrowed the margin to two, 0-10 to 1-5, but it was the last time the Magheragallon men would trouble the scoreboard operator.

Before the game, veteran Michael Hegarty was given a special presentation to mark his 100th Championship game, that milestone marked the previous week against Ardara.

Here, in his 101st Championship outing, Hegarty got the biggest cheer of the day when he struck a 51st minute point as Kilcar pulled away.
