‘Heart-stopping’ finale but Milford minor manager Aodh McCormack has nothing but pride for his team

MILFORD MANAGER AODH MCCORMACK hailed his side after a ‘heart-stopping’ win over Kilcar in the Minor Division 2 Championship final.

Connor Gormley’s nerveless last-gasp winner sealed a dramatic 2-7 to 1-9 win for the Moyle View men, their first county minor crown in nine years.

First-half goals by Gormley and Shane McNamee set them on their way, but Kilcar sneaked ahead when Conor Doherty fired over in stoppage time, but Martin Doyle and Gormley prised the title into Milford hands.

“I’m very proud of them,” McCormack said.

“The game came and went on us a couple of times. We’re delighted to get over the line in the end up.

“It was a fantastic stroke under the most severe pressure with the last free.

“It was heart-stopping stuff and it was very exciting.”

With the Milford seniors at the top of Division 3 and on course to make the leap into Division 2, things are on the up.

McCormack said: “We’re looking at the bigger picture, rather than just looking at winning titles. Twelve of this team have already started for the reserve or senior team.”
