SHANE MCGINTY BAGGED a second-half hat-trick as Institute scored a huge 9-0 win over Kimore Rec in the Intermediate Cup this afternoon.

The 21-year-old St Johnston man came on as a 54th minute replacement for Aaron Harkin and left with the match ball.

Institute were leading 2-0 through Gareth Brown’s opener and a second by Ciaron Harkin when McGinty entered the fray.

Brown made it 3-0 and McGinty added the fourth whjen he drilled home from close range after being teed up by Sean Roddy.

McGinty added a brilliant fifth for Kevin Deery’s team when a mazy dribble that saw him go by several challenges ended with a neat finish.

Ciaron Harkin added his second before McGinty’s hat-trick goal arrived on 75 minutes as he coolly picked his spot before Roddy completed the rout.

McGinty isn’t long back from injury having been out for a period with a fractured foot and fractured toe.

“I’ve missed too much of the season so fingers crossed I get a clear run at the team now,” McGinty said. “Delighted to get the hat-trick and get into the next round. Hopefully I can get a place in the side now that I’m fit again.”

His fellow St Johnston man Michael Lynch was the Institute goalkeeper while Buncrana man Garbhan Friel and another ex-Cockhill player Ryan Varma also lined out.
