ROSSES AC’S Amy Greene was a silver medalist yesterday at the Irish Life Health National Novice and Uneven Age Cross Country Championships at the Cow Park in Dunboyne.

Greene (pictured above) was the sole Donegal medal winner in the individual races, but there were team bronze for Finn Valley’s Under-19 boys and county bronze and silver medals for Donegal in the Novice Women and Under-17 boys.

The weather and the course held up well with the course naturally sticky but still providing plenty of running with Dunboyne proving wonderful hosts of the event.

The Donegal highlight was Greene scooping the silver in the Girls U17 race.

Greene was just behind Youghal’s Emma Landers. Rosses AC ace Greene edged Roisin Kennedy in the battle for silver.

Donegal won bronze in the novice women, led by Helen McCready of Rosses in fourth and Sarah Kelly, representing Inishowen AC, in fifth. Finn Valley duo Leoni Mullen and Aine Donnelly were also scorers.

Dublin and Cork took the gold and silvers with Donegal slotting into third spot.

Finn Valley’s Under-19 Girls scooped bronze medals. Cassi Lagan led the way in 11th with Karen Gallagher (22nd) and Aoife McGrath (39th) also on the team.

Donegal won silver in the Boys Under-17 event. Olympian YAC’s Sean McGinley was their leading marksman in fifth. Jack Holian of Letterkenny (9th), Finn Valley’s Oisin Toye (13th) and Inishowen’s Diarmait Keogh (28th) were inside the top 30. Cranford AC’s Oisin Kelly and Evan Keown of Letterkenny AC were also scorers.

Finn Valley AC’s novice men were just edged in the medals hunt as their quartet of Dermot McElchar, Mark McPaul, Shane McNulty and Shea Carlin missed out agonisingly.

There were also near misses for Cranford’s Caolan McFadden, fourth in the U13s and Rosses AC’s Leighton Greene, fourth in the U11 race.
