Great weekend for Richard Kerr at British Superbike Championships

Kilmacrennan’s Richard Kerr had another great weekend at the second round of the British Superbike Championship.

Kerr qualified in 12th position for the Sprint race on Sunday and after a great start was holding onto 8th position overall but more importantly 5th in the Supersport class.

He was looking at a career best of 5th place when Richard hit a false neutral at the last corner on the last lap of the 12 lapper and ran wide, allowing three riders other riders past.

It was an unlucky end to a fantastic race but an 8th place finish in Supersport class at BSB still represents a fantastic result for the small Campbell Motorsport team.

Richard posted the ninth fastest lap of the race and would start Race two from the third row of the grid on Monday.

Richard got a great start and was battling for 5th in the first half of the race and soon settled into 8th position. He had over a three-second gap to the ninth-placed rider when, with four laps to go, a small mistake forced Richard to overshoot one of the chicanes.

He had to do a long lap penalty and the race was red flagged four laps from the finish and Richard couldn’t do the long lap so the organisers gave him a three-second penalty, which left the young Donegal man tenth overall and 7th in the Supersport class.

Richard was a bit disappointed the way both races ended but still very happy with his pace considering he missed most of pre-season testing.

After the weekend, he is in sixth position in the Supersport class.

The team now have a break while the International Northwest 200 takes place next week, but they return to action the following week at Donnington Park.
