Golden Boy matchmaker says Quigley-‘Spike’ bout would ‘be massive in Ireland’

Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz has indicated that they are planning a collision course for Irish middleweights Jason Quigley and Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan.

Cork native O’Sullivan was KO’d by David Lemieux in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

The first round loss cast immediate doubts over O’Sullivan’s future, but Diaz insists that Golden Boy will retain the 34-year-old’s services.

There are suggestions that O’Sullivan’s comeback route could be at light-middle, but if he were to keep going in the middleweight division, Quigley could well be a future opponents.

“When I signed Spike my first thought was ‘imagine Spike and Jason in Ireland’ – it would be huge,” Diaz told the42.ie.

Quigley had his eyes on a WBA middleweight shot against Ryota Murata, but that plan was shattered.

However, Diaz added: “I think within the next couple of fights he could be challenging for a world title. He wins that, and Spike has a successful couple of fights back, that would be massive.”
