TWO late points saw Glenswilly hold on for dear life to defeat Sean MacCumhaills at Pairc Naomh Columba.

Keelin Dunleavy and Caoimhin Marley fired over the game-winning scores, while a first-half Shane McDevitt goal also proved key for the Glen men.

The goal came on the 25th minute. Michael Murphy – who was sent off in the closing stages – sent the long ball in. Eoin Gallen, the MacCumhaills ‘keeper, didn’t deal with it and was robbed by Marley. He off-loaded to McDevitt, who slammed to the net.

Five points in the opening 19 minutes – three by Murphy and two off the boot of Marley – had Glenswilly 0-5 to 0-2 in front.

Gary McFadden and Mark McAteer pointed to put Glenswilly 1-7 to 0-3 ahead at half-time.

However, Glenswilly would hit a big scoreless streak and MacCumhaills hit five in a row, with Oisin Gallen finding his range.

MacCumhaills also saw Luke Gavigan denied a goal when Glenswilly goalkeeper Philip O’Donnell saved well.

Gallen bent over from play to draw MacCumhaills level, but Dunleavy and Marley landed the late points that fired Glenswilly to a valuable home win.

Glenswilly held on, but Donegal captain Murphy was sent off four minutes into added time after collecting a second booking from Jimmy White, the referee.
