Glengad make two new signings ahead of their three-in-a-row title push

Inishowen League champions Glengad United have made two astute signings that manager Shane Byrne hopes can propel them to a three-in-a-row this season.

Attacking midfielder Cathal McDaid and goalkeeper Seamus Houghton have previously been on the books of Finn Harps and Derry City, but have now signed for Glengad.

Hougton was with Derry’s Under-19s in 2011/12 and subsequently played for the Candystripes in the Ulster Seniro League.

With Gerard Doherty laying claim to the number 1 shirt at the Brandywell, Houghton’s chances of a breakthrough were always going to be limited and, having been at college at Carlow IT, he signed for Wexford Youths.

Houghton was in the Youths squad that won the First Division in 2015.

Now, Houghton is set to battle it out with Kevin McLaughlin for the starting spot at Glengad.

McDaid, meanwhile, is a Letterkenny native whose mother hails from Glengad.

McDaid was given a contract at Finn Harps in 2012, but after first team appearances were limited he returned to Letterkenny Rovers.

McDaid was part of the Rovers squad that reached the FAI Intermediate Cup final last year, but has now joined the ranks at The Crua, where the natives are hoping for a third Jackie Crossan Premier Division title in a row.
