Gary McDaid reports clean bill of health as Donegal U20s prepare for Derry

Donegal Under-20 manager Gary McDaid says Jason McGee and Enda McCormick came through Sunday’s win over Cavan without aggravating injuries.

Donegal had 17 points to spare as they beat the Breffni 2-21 to 0-10, with Niall O’Donnell landing a scintillating 1-12.

McGee and McCormick had both been doubts having missed the bulk of Donegal’s preparation for Sunday’s game.

Termon’s McCormick replaced McGee in the 50th minute.

“It’s a quick turnaround, but we had procedures in place to get them played and get the minutes into them, but getting them fresh to train again this week,” McDaid said ahead of a quarter-final meeting with Derry in Omagh on Sunday.

“We’re not too bad, just a few knocks and niggles.”

McGee had worked his way onto the senior team in 2017, but opted to throw his lot in with the U20s for this Championship campaign and is key to the U20s.

McDaid said: “Getting game time for Jason was huge. He had no work done collectively with us at all. He was just working with our S&C and medical people.

“It was cut throat so we had to throw him in. We knew he wasn’t fit for 60 minutes so we pulled him going into the fourth quarter.”

McCormick had also been on the fringes of the senior panel and the Termon man recovered just in time to feature on Sunday.

McDaid praised the likes of Dr Kevin Moran, masseur Ronan Steed and strength and conditioning coach Liam Paul Ferry for their work.

McDaid said: “Enda had less work done. He just had the boot off and it was good to get minutes into his legs on Sunday.”
