Gardaí in Donegal have warned the public, including businesses and organisations, about a new email scam involving GAA clubs.
It comes following a report to Gardaí in Donegal by a GAA club that they had been targeted by email on Tuesday, July 2.
It is understood that club secretary for the local club received an email from someone impersonating to be the club president.
In the email, the club secretary was asked to purchase three iTunes vouchers totalling €300 and to email back the code on the voucher.
The impersonator said the secretary would be reimbursed.
Before going through with the scam, the club secretary contacted the club president only to be told that it wasn’t an address associated with them.
The scam comes 24-hours after Gardaí warned people about a text scam that claimed to be from Revenue.
Gardaí are now once again urging anyone who receives an email or text not to respond or click on any links.
