GAOTH Dobhair posted a routine season-opening win over St Eunan’s at Magheragallon this afternoon.

With both teams under new management it’s the home team new set-up that will be the happier after this opening league fixture in Maghergallon.

Gaoth Dobhair controlled this game from start to finish. Eamonn Collum and Darragh Mulgrew exchanged early points and Mulgrew should have goaled in the 7th minute following a good Eunans move but he shot narrowly wide.

Ethan Harkin and the impressive Niall Friel pointed for the home team, but Brian McIntrye replied for Eunans in the 14th minute.

Two minutes later Friel finished off a move involving Seaghan Ferry and the lively Cian Mulligan with a pin-point lob over keeper Ronan McGeehin to make it 1-3 to 0-0 despite Eunans having the elements in their favour.

That was the last score of the half and the visitors chances were further diminished ten minutes later when Padraig McGettigan received a straight red card from referee Enda McFeely after a clash with Gary McFadden.

It was all Gaoth Dobhair  after the break, Harkin and Friel with two apiece and Eamon McGee added five points before Peter McEniff got Eunans first score for 35 minutes, quickly followed by one from sub Kieran Tobin, 1-8 to 0-4.

Eamon McGee’s attempted long range cross-field pass caught out keeper McGeehin and flew into the net in the 54th minute and Eoin McGeehin’s injury-time free finished the scoring on a windy day in Maghergallon.

County players Daire Ó Baoill and Neil McGee made second-half appearances for the home team.
