GAOTH DOBHAIR cruised to a 14-point win in Kentucky against Ardara in Division 1 this afternoon.

Ardara 1-10 Gaoth Dobhair 3-18

The victory means the side from Magheragallon remain top of the standings, having picked up three wins and a draw from their four outings to date this season.

Naoise Ó Baoill and Eoin Ward scored first half goals and Michael Carroll put in an excellent personal performance with 1-6 and the visitors had the luxury of taking on Eamon McGee and Kieran Gillespie at the break when they were already cruising with an 11-point advantage, 2-11 to 1-3.

Carroll and Ó Baoill both had early goal chances saved by Cathal Gallagher but Gavin McBride – who would score five points – slotted over the 45’s that followed.

The first goal of the game was scored by Ó Baoill on seven minutes, when he gave Gallagher no chance following a Carroll pass.

Ward managed to add a second Gaoth Dobhair goal then on 14 minutes as the alarm bells were ringing for the hosts.

Ardara did muster something of note when Jimmy O’Connell grabbed a goal back before half-time but the mountain face was a steep one for the locals.

Gaoth Dobhair were creating goal chances at will and after Carroll had been unfortunate to see an effort come back off the bottom of the post, last year’s county minor captain added a third goal for his team on 38 minutes.

Ardara did score on occasion, with Brendan McNelis posting three frees and Gareth Concarr producing the same from play but they almost conceded a fourth goal when Eamon McGee was denied by the post.
