GAOTH DOBHAIR WILL take on Aodh Ruadh in Monday’s Under-21A final following their victory over St Eunan’s in Glenties this morning.

Gaoth Dobhair 1-10 St Eunan’s 0-8

The Magheragallon side got the first score of the semi-final though Conor Boyle – a goal – to set them on their way and they managed to keep St Eunan’s at arm’s length thereafter.

It seemed as though St Eunan’s were always in touching distance but Gaoth Dobhair were in control.

Boyle managed to get the better of Sean Daffan in the sixth minute when, following a decent move, referee Robbie O’Donnell waved for advantage and the Gaoth Dobhair forward shot his side into the lead.

James Boyle and Michael Carroll followed up with points to put Gaoth Dobhair 1-2 to 0-0 in front on 14 minutes.

St Eunan’s got going thanks to two points from Michael Miller and a Connall O’Boyle score.

Another facet of the contest was the fine kicking of Gavin McBride (pictured above), who scored six points in all – four of which came from frees.

At the break, Gaoth Dobhair were 1-5 to 0-4 in front.

Although Niall O’Donnell opened the second half scoring with a free-kick, a tit-for-tat element emerged and that suited the team in front, Gaoth Dobhair.

Boyle struck the St Eunan’s upright with a slapped effort after a pass from Kieran Gillespie. With 10 minutes left St Eunan’s got back to three down, 1-8 to 0-8, when Kevin Kealy and Niall Hannigan scored but Friel’s accuracy saw Gaoth Dobhair home.

They’ll play Aodh Ruadh on Monday in the final, as the Ballyshannon team were impressive winners last night against Naomh Conaill.
