Michael Lynch moves to Gaoth Dobhair for 2020 campaign

DONEGAL goalkeeper Michael Lynch is in line to make his Gaoth Dobhair debut in the new Regional League this weekend.

The St Johnston man has transferred to the 2018 Ulster champions from his native Naomh Colmcille – and could make a first appearance in the green and white tomorrow night.

Lynch was a leading light for Naomh Colmcille in 2017 when they won the Ulster and Donegal Junior Championship crowns.

Lynch, who scored three points in the 2017 Ulster final win over Belnaleck, played at midfield for Naomh Colmcille and is likely to be given an outfield role by Gaoth Dobhair.

Lynch’s move will come as a surprise, but will certainly arrive as a boost for the west Donegal side, who remain under Mervyn O’Donnell’s management in 2020.

In January, the 23-year-old made his senior debut for Donegal, playing in a Dr McKenna Cup win over Derry at Celtic Park.

At a meeting of the Donegal GAA Management Committee meeting last weekend, Lynch’s transfer was ratified on the basis that he met with the requirement of residing in the club catchment area over a three-month period.

Gaoth Dobhair host Cloughaneely at Magheragallon tomorrow evening in Division 1, Section A of the Regional League (throw-in 7.30pm).
