OISIN GALLEN had his shooting boots on as Sean MacCumhaill’s posted a useful victory over Ardara in the sunshine at County HQ this evening.

MacCumhaill’s 1-10 Ardara 1-9

Gallen scored 1-4 to set his team on their way to victory against an Ardara side who next weekend face a daunting trip to Naomh Conaill.

Paul Rouse, the MacCumahill’s manager, would’ve been delighted with the start his team made. They might’ve conceded the first point off the boot of Stefan Boyle, but from then till the first water break, it was all the home team.

They chalked up a goal after four successive points, with Padhraic Patton, Gavin Gallagher, Martin Gallagher and Oisin Gallen scoring and then added a goal on 13 minutes. Gallen slotted home a penalty after Matthew Sweeney had fouled Jamie Keegan to leave it 1-4 to 0-1.

Once Ardara got a chance to regroup they improved towards the end of the half. On 21 minutes, following a strong run, John Ross Molloy smashed past Eoin Gallen for an Ardara goal. Then, Declan Gavigan and Boyle scored late in the half, as did Oisin Gallen with two excellent points. So, at the break, MacCumhaill’s were 1-6 to 1-4 ahead, with Johnny McHugh scoring the last point of the half.

Luke Gavigan of MacCumhaill’s scored the first point of part two, with Gareth Concarr putting over a Town End free as they two-point margin remained. Johnny McHugh then scored his second point of the evening and suddenly, there was just in it – MacCumhaill’s 1-7 to Ardara’s 1-6.

Further points from Aaron Kelly, Gallen and then a fine Chad McSorley effort made it 1-10 to 1-6 for MacCumhaill’s in the closing stages.

Boyle kept Ardara in touch, with a free and then decent score on the run, and when Lorcan O’Donnell grabbed another point in the fourth minute of injury-time, MacCumhaill’s were in a sweat with Christopher Gallagher having saw black.

Boyle had one long-ranger to try and scramble a draw in the 68th minute but it fell wide.
