THIS weekend’s Donegal Junior Football Championship semi-final between St Mary’s, Convoy and Letterkenny Gaels has been postponed.
The semi-final was due to take place in O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny, on Sunday afternoon.
However, St Mary’s, Convoy have temporarily suspended all activities within the club as they await the results of Covid-19 tests for club members and people in their community.
Yesterday, St Mary’s, Convoy confirmed they they had suspended all underage activities, but that has now been extended to a club-wide suspension.
In a statement, St Mary’s, Convoy said: “As a precautionary measure the club have temporarily suspended all club activity, both training and matches until further notice.
“Activities have been put on hold pending the results of further tests to club members and people in the local community.
“We would encourage all members of our community to be extra vigilant in following the guidelines for the safety of everyone.
“We understand that frequent testing may be something our members have to deal with over the coming weeks and months, but we will always be on the side of caution and follow HSE guidelines and suspend activities.
“Stay safe folks and look after and support each other.”
Meanwhile, the Robert Emmets club in Castlefin has issued a fresh update on its suspension of activity.
The club announced earlier in the week that all activity had been put on hold.
In a statement today, the club says that an executive meeting last Thursday evening was attended by five club members.
On Monday, the club learned that one of those members had contracted Covid-19.
Robert Emmets said: “The remaining 4 members were forwarded for testing immediately as this was their only contact with this confirmed case and have all received negative results but have been advised to restrict their movements until 24th September.
“We want to make it clear it was at Pairc Eimeid where these 4 members had contact with the confirmed case and nowhere else.
“We would urge people who have been in contact with a confirmed case or who are presenting with symptoms to please contact your GP immediately or to freephone HSElive on 1850 24 1850.
“We understand wholeheartedly that this is an extremely worrying time for our community.”
