Frosty weather stops play at Portsalon Golf Club

The cold temperatures and heavy frost laid siege to Portsalon last week, resulting the golf course being closed for play from Tuesday right through until Sunday.

That means the Gents Open on Wednesday was lost as was the already reschedule Winter Open Series event on Saturday 2nd and the regular Sunday Members on Sunday 3rd.

Thankfully, as of Monday morning, the temperatures are back up and the course is now fit for action once more.

Membership 2019

A gentle reminder to all members that 2019 subscriptions are now due, these can be paid in the shop and, as always, the club welcomes early receipt of subs.

New Golf Rules Evening

With the many new rule changes in golf for 2019, Portsalon Golf Club is pleased to be hosting an information evening on Thursday 7th February from 7pm – 9pm in the Clubhouse. This event is open to all member and will seek to update golfers on the new rules in a comfortable and relaxed setting.

We encourage as many members as possible to come along and join us on the night, as the event will be interactive and it should provide maximum information with plenty people on hand!

Ladies Branch

The ladies at Portsalon rarely miss two consecutive competitions because of bad weather but never three!  However the persistent freezing conditions closed the course for both Sunday Members on 27th January and 3rd February and the Ladies Winter Links on Thursday January 31st.

The thaw finally arrived on Monday 4th February, melting the white layer that had covered the course, so it should be business as usual for this coming weekend.

Portsalon Winter Links

January Ladies Links (rescheduled) – Thursday 7th February; February Ladies Links – Thursday 27th February; March Ladies Links – Thursday 28th March; Tee-time bookings – Contact Daragh in the shop: Tel. 074 9159459

Donegal Shield 2019

Portsalon are hosting the 2019 Donegal Shield on Saturday 6th April. There will be a total of 17 Donegal clubs competing for the coveted trophy.

Portsalon will have home advantage but will need a strong team to fend off the challenge from neighbouring clubs especially last year’s winners Dunfanaghy who know the Portsalon Links so well.

The Donegal Shield qualifying date for Portsalon members is Sunday 24th March.
