Veteran midfielder Michael Funston has revealed that he is set to leave Finn Harps at the mid-season break.

The 32-year-old – pictured above scoring against Derry City last month – has played 333 times and scored 32 goals for Harps since making his debut against Dundalk in May 2004.

Bar a year-and-a-half with Dungannon Swifts, Funston, who signed as a youth from Bonagee United has been at Harps for his whole career as a senior footballer.

However, Funston – who put in an excellent display last night in the 3-1 win over St Patrick’s Athletic – confirmed tonight on social media that he is set to leave the club.

Function wrote: “Great result last night. I would just like to take this opportunity and let people know that Friday night will be my last home game.

“After the Sligo game I’ve decided it’s time to move on with my career.

“After 12 years, 300 odd games I’ve had some great memories. I would like to thank the club for giving me the opportunity of representing them for the past 12 years.

”I would also like to thank past and present players for some wonderful memories along the way.

“To all the managers I’ve worked under, thanks for giving me your time and putting your faith in me.

“And to the supporters, thanks for your unwavering and loyal support always. Finally, I would like to wish the current group of players and staff of Finn Harps continued success with the season ahead. #UTH 2764.png26bd.png26bd.png”

Funston will be available for Friday’s home game against Limerick and next weekend’s away game in Sligo, but will move on thereafter and end his association with the club.

Funston won the First Division with Harps in 2004, and scored a goal in promotion-relegation play-off wins over Waterford United in 2007 and Limerick FC in 2015.
