A MEMORABLE week ended in utter heartache for the Letterkenny and North-West District League Under-12s as they lost Saturday’s Foyle Cup final against Sligo/Leitrim.

Sligo/Leitrim win 4-3 on penalties
It was a gut-wrenching conclusion after Letterkenny and North-West District (pictured above) blazed their way to the final.
And there was no evidence of nerves in the decider as Adam Murphy fired them into an early lead.
The Bonagee United starlet weaved his way past three Sligo/Leitrim players and picked his spot in the net after only four minutes.
From Murphy’s corner, they should have doubled the lead, but Josh Bradley was inches away with his header.
Sligo/Leitrim drew level when Caelan Hunt headed past Kyle Burns.
After the break, Bradley could have put the Letterkenny/North-West men ahead, but he was denied by Eanna Clancy, the Sligo/Leitrim goalkeeper.
Eight minutes from time, Dylan Walsh beat Burns from way out with a goal worthy of winning any tie, but the Brandywell shook again when Bradley’s majestic strike sent the game to penalties.
In the lottery, it was the numbers of Sligo/Leitrim that came out. Devastation in the end, but it was a week of immense pride for the Letterkenny and North-West District boys.
