LETTERKENNY RFC WERE left to rue the loss of Terence Gallagher through injury in their loss against Limavady this afternoon at Dave Gallaher Memorial Park.

Gallagher was forced off after only 14 minutes with a shoulder injury in the Kukri Qualifying League 3 clash, which meant the hosts had a mountain to climb against their guests – who had won 13 from 13 this term as they arrived in the Cathedral town.

Jamie Mo Miller ran in the opening try of the contest for Limavady on 21 minutes following a tap penalty, with Jack McCool knocking over the conversion.

Then, on 29 minutes, the visitors’ lead ran out to 12-0 when pressure told and Jonathan Blair touched down in the corner.

Letterkenny, playing a man light due to Gallagher’s absence with no replacements, gave themselves a lifeline four minutes before break when Colm McNicholl finished well following sustained phases.

The home team were pushing again but in the 55th minute were caught on the break by Clive Scott to put Limavady 17-5 in front.

But the locals had reason for optimism in the 64 minute when Sean Deery scored a fine try and Ryan Mortimer added the conversion to leave Letterkenny only 17-12 down.

However, whatever chances they had to get any closer were dashed a minute later when scrum-half Jamie Miller got in under the posts and McCool added the conversion.
