Four new faces to strengthen Cockhill Celtic’s title defence

ULSTER SENIOR LEAGUE CHAMPIONS COCKHILL CELTIC have bolstered their squad with the arrival of four new faces.

Gerry Gill, Tommy Lee McCarron, Mark Coyle and Paul McDermott have all been added to the Cockhill panel this week.

Attacker Gill (pictured above) returns to the Charlie O’Donnell Sports Grounds after spending the last four months with his native Greencastle FC in the Inishowen League.

Gill had also been playing for the Inishowen representative team and his move back to the USL will serve as a blow to Diarmuid O’Brien’s side in their defence of the Oscar Traynor Cup.

Gill is a former Derry City, Institute and Finn Harps player and has been part of the golden era at Cockhill, with the League and League Cup double won in each of the previous three seasons.

He is joined in the in tray by goalkeeper McCarron, attacker Coyle and McDermott, who can operate at right-back or in midfield. McCarron, Coyle and McDermott have signed from Finn Harps, where they were a part of Joe Boyle’s Under-19 side.

McCarron was the understudy to Ciaran Gallagher and made his first team debut in the final home game of the season against Wexford Youths as a late substitute.

Cockhill have bowed out of this season’s FAI Intermediate Cup, but their challenge for the League title remains on course. Ahead of a meeting with Swilly Rovers on Sunday, Cockhill are two points behind the leaders, Letterkenny Rovers, and have a game in hand.
