GLENFIN HAD NO answer to the power house performance by Four Masters in Killygordan in yesterday’s relegation playoff match.

Four Masters 1-13 Glenfin 0-7

By Conor Breslin

Though not the most attractive football, with both teams forcing seventeen turnovers apiece in the first half, the match did contained some excellent intensity, skill and hard-work.

Michael Doherty opened the match with a fine score on the first minute, closely followed by a score down the other side of the field from the lively Frank McGlynn.

This would be the final score for sixteen minutes until Conor McBride would pop over a free.

Masters kept their cool and from the 21st to the 27th minute the Donegal town men scored five points, four of which came from the right footed free taker Conor McDaid and one from the speedy Sean O’Kennedy.

Glenfin continuously kept searching for goals instead of points but failed due to the fantastic performances of Danny McGarrigle and Kevin Breslin in the full back line. Masters marched to the dressing room the more happier of the two teams with a half time score 0-6 to 0-2.

The second half switched up a gear with Masters taking control from the outset with Karl Lacey driving in a long ball into full forward Michael Doherty, Doherty dropped a long ball into the goalmouth for Patrick Reid to leap up and smash it home into the net in the opening twenty seconds.

From there Four Masters dominated with four points from Michael Doherty.
Glenfin did go down fighting to the end with three scores from Conor McBride and one each from Ciaran Foy and Frank McGlynn though it was not enough as Masters tagged three final scores to the scoreboard in the last five minutes from Michael Doherty and substitutes Leo McHugh and John Boyle.
