Two goals in each half from Sean Mc Donagh, Mark Hunter, Conor McBrearty and Brendan O’Brien sealed a Division 3 win for Letterkenny Gaels over Gaeil Fhánada.

Aaron Bradley opened the scoring after a fine run through the heart of the Fanad defence. Seamie ‘Nanniy’ Friel responded well with a free from close range for the away team.

In the following 12 minutes Letterkenny Gaels scored 2-1. The two goals were teo close range shots finished after good approach play from midfield. Then Conor McBrearty finished the home team’s scoring for the first half with a fine long range score after a good turnover.

Mark Friel added another score on the stroke of half time to leave seven points between the teams.

Fanad started the stronger in the second half with the aid of the breeze and hit four points in a row during the first 10 mins to leave the game in the melting pot with only three points between the sides.

Gaels then broke up the field and after good approach play from Ciaran Cannon, John Doran was awarded a penalty for a foul inside the square. Conor McBrearty, unlike his past effort cooly dispatched sending the keeper the wrong way.

Fanad responded instantly when a shot for a point dropped short and fell to John Friel who palmed the ball into the net. Letterkenny Gaels midfielder and captain, Brendan O’Brien, then stepped up with a fine goal as he got on the end of a flowing move and rounded the keeper to put daylight between the sides again.

Gaeil Fhánada rallied again and scored three unanswered frees to cut the deficit to four. With 33 minutes on the clock Mark Hunter got on the end of a good pass into the Letterkenny Gaels full forward line and fired over the insurance score to seal a five-point win for the home team.
