Former League of Ireland referee Stephen Toner makes return in Donegal League

STEPHEN TONER will make his return to refereeing this weekend as the Convoy man takes up the whistle again.

Toner, a former League of Ireland referee, had retired as a referee at the close of the 2014/15 season, having suffered a knee injury during that campaign.

Since then, Toner (pictured above, right, alongside Paul Duddy) has served as an assessor in the local branch of the Irish Soccer Referees Society.

Now, though, the popular whistler will be back in the middle as he takes charge of Sunday’s Donegal Physiotherapy and Performance Centre Division 2 clash between Swilly Rovers and Gweedore United at Swilly Park.

Toner served as a League of Ireland official for a long number of years and had been among the top referees in the Ulster Senior League during his career.
