Kerr took over as Republic of Ireland manager in 2003 and was in charge until 2005. Beforehand he had taken the Irish Under-16 side and Under-18 sides to victory in the 1998 European Championships.

This came a year after Kerr’s Ireland came third at the 1997 World Youth Championships.
