Former Donegal trainer set to manage St Eunan’s

St Eunan’s are set to have a new manager for the 2019 season.

Former Donegal trainer Richard Thornton is to take over the black and amber.

Thornton was a member of the St Eunan’s backroom team in 2018, when Maxi Curran was at the helm.

Having double-jobbed last year, Curran is just looking after the Donegal senior ladies in 2019.

Thornton, however, will stay on at O’Donnell Park, but will step up to become senior manager of the 14-times Dr Maguire winners.

St Eunan’s exited the 2018 Donegal SFC in the group phase, having missed out on quarter-final places to Gaoth Dobhair and Naomh Conaill – both of whom contested the county final.

Coalisland native Thornton is a former U21 All-Ireland winner with Tyrone, while he has also had spells as manager of Coalisland and Loup.

In 2017, Thornton was the team trainer during Rory Gallagher’s final year as manager of the Donegal senior footballers.
