Former Donegal manager aiding Urris’ push for Junior title

Urris go into this weekend’s Donegal Junior A Championship semi-final against St Mary’s Convoy with a helping hand from a former Donegal manager.

Mickey Moran has been aiding the Strain men in their quest to land the JFC title.

Four years ago, Urris won the Donegal Junior crown and went on to reach the Ulster JFC final, where they lost to Rock from Tyrone.

Urris were 0-13 to 0-8 winners over Naomh Padraig, Muff in the quarter-final on Saturday evening in Malin.

And the presence of former Donegal, Derry and Mayo boss Moran on the line has been giving the Shaun Paul Doherty-managed side a big lift.

Moran stepped down as manager of Derry and Ulster kingpins Slaughtneil earlier this year.

Moran took the Robert Emmet’s club to four Derry SFCs, three Ulster SFC and two All-Ireland finals – including their 2018 loss to Nemo Rangers from Cork.

Moran was Donegal manager in 2001 and 2002, stepping down following the All-Ireland quarter-final replay defeat by Dublin.

Four points by Alan Friel on Saturday night were key as Urris booked a last four place and they take on Convoy this weekend.
